Post-Session Online Group Counseling Reflection Process (GCReP): A Preliminary Analysis
Abstract:
This study introduces a technique called the Post-Session Group Counseling Reflection Process (GCReP). In this technique, members are invited sit silently after each session and listen to the leaders process it among themselves. Using a qualitative approach, the study examined the experiences of eight university students (six women and two men) who were affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquake (2023) and participated in an eight-session online group-counseling program. Data were collected through five semi-structured open-ended questions and analyzed using thematic content analysis. Two overarching themes emerged from participants' responses: perceptions of the GCReP technique and its role in enhancing group functioning. The first theme comprised the sub-themes of awareness, facilitation, expert input, and perceived risks and limitations. The second theme comprised the sub-themes of increased group trust, mutual support, and therapeutic benefits. Findings suggest that GCReP may be a valuable, easily applicable tool for enhancing group-counseling processes.
