Abstract:
Cancer neuroscience has established that diffuse gliomas do not merely occupy neural tissue but, rather, malignant cells infiltrate and integrate within neuronal networks, actively remodeling neural circuit function. This relationship is bidirectional in that neuronal activity promotes tumor growth and progression, while glioma infiltration and expansion alter neuronal excitability and network dynamics, with clinically relevant consequences for seizure burden, cognitive function, and patient survival. This article focuses on the next steps required to translate our understanding of the cellular mechanisms of glioma-neuron cross-talk into patient benefit.
