Aim:
To develop and evaluate an immersive simulation using interactive video scenario for guided tour of the birthing room.
Background:
Establishing a prior connection between pregnant women and the maternity unit is a strategy to humanize childbirth. The creation of an immersive simulation using interactive video mediated by a mobile health tool may support this initiative, providing an alternative approach for pregnant women to become familiar with the environment where they will give birth.
Design:
Methodological study.
Methods:
The study followed three phases: (1) development of the simulation scenario based on the NLN Jeffries Simulation Framework-NLN Nursing Education Simulation Framework; (2) content evaluation of the script by specialists using a self-designed instrument with 38 items, assessed through a five-point Likert scale for calculating the Content Validity Coefficient (CVC) and Content Validity Ratio (CVR'); and (3) pre-production, production, and post-production of the interactive video. The guideline for Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) was used.
Results:
The script achieved a CVCt of 0.82 and CVR' values of 89 for language clarity, 99 for practical relevance, and 77 for theoretical significance. The video, titled 'Guiding birth: a guided tour of the normal birth facility', was structured into four parts: welcoming, an interactive guided tour of the birthing room, additional information, and farewell.
Conclusion:
The study was developed using a consistent and reproducible methodology. The phased approach allowed the study's objectives to be achieved, and the evaluation by experts confirmed the significance of the script's content in terms of theoretical relevance, language clarity, and practical relevance.
Relevance To Clinical Practice:
The immersive simulation using interactive video may serve as a resource for women unable to participate in an in-person guided tour of the reference maternity unit. Additionally, it promotes health education about humanized normal childbirth.
Patient Or Public Contribution:
None.
