Objective:
This study aimed to explore the experiences of adolescents aged 15-17 years diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD), their perceptions of the illness process, and its impact on daily life, in order to inform pediatric nursing practice and multidisciplinary supportive care approaches.
Methods:
This study was conducted using a phenomenological design. Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 adolescents selected through criterion sampling. Data were collected using a sociodemographic form and an interview guide. The data were analysed using thematic analysis with MAXQDA 2022.
Results:
Three main themes and eleven sub-themes were identified: "Pre-illness Experiences," "Illness Experiences," and "Expectations for the Future." Participants reported that CKD caused changes not only physiologically but also psychologically and socially. Common challenges included peer relationship disruptions, emotional difficulties, and daily routine limitations.
Conclusion:
Adolescents with CKD experience multidimensional challenges affecting their physical, psychological, and social lives. Addressing these challenges requires comprehensive and structured support.
