Abstract:
The use of wireless power transfer (WPT) for charging consumer electronics has grown in recent years, owing to its convenience. The growing adoption of WPT in professional and home healthcare environments is raising concerns about the potential risks of interference with medical devices. Due to inadequate information regarding the emission characteristics of commercially available WPT systems, the electromagnetic (EM) immunity test protocols of many current applicable consensus standards to medical devices have not been evaluated for their appropriateness in assessing interference caused by such WPT systems. To address this critical knowledge gap, we present emission measurements for 13 different inductive consumer WPT devices in the frequency range of 100 kHz to 400 kHz.
