Abstract:
This paper proposes a commitment account of organizational trustworthiness and describes its application to healthcare organizations. On this account, a trustworthy organization makes commitments it is competent to keep and it has a track record of keeping them. We argue that, unlike other conceptions of trustworthiness, the commitment account best fits the impersonal, diffuse nature of healthcare organizations.
