Background:
Despite the growing body of research on psychoeducation within psychiatric-mental health nursing, a comprehensive bibliometric evaluation mapping its intellectual structure and collaborative networks is lacking in the literature.
Aim:
This study analyzed the bibliometric characteristics, trends, and developmental trajectories of global publications related to psychoeducation in psychiatric mental health nursing.
Methods:
A bibliometric analysis was conducted using data obtained from the Web of Science database, specifically within the nursing category. This study analyzed 225 English research and review articles published from 1998 to 2025 using the Bibliometrix package in R.
Results:
Analysis of the 225 publications revealed that they were published between 1998 and 2025, exhibiting an annual publication growth rate of 11%. The studies involved 743 authors, with an average citation count of 12.8 per publication. The United States emerged as the most prolific contributor, accounting for 22.2% of publications, followed by Turkey.
Conclusion:
Psychoeducation is increasingly prioritized in psychiatric nursing. Future research should broaden the scope to include caregiver support, self-management interventions, and pediatric programs.
Implications For Practice:
In psychiatric nursing, it is important to use structured programs to teach schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder. It is also suggested to create programs for caregivers, self-management methods, and mental health education for children and adolescents. Future research should include different cultures, databases, and publications in multiple languages to better understand the field.
