Abstract:
Veligrotug (veligrotug-vvze; LUMVOA™) is a monoclonal antibody insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) inhibitor that was developed by Viridian Therapeutics for the treatment of thyroid eye disease (also known as Graves ophthalmopathy/orbitopathy or thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy). In June 2026, veligrotug was approved by the US FDA for the treatment of thyroid eye disease regardless of disease activity or duration, based on positive results from two multinational phase III clinical trials. This article summarizes the milestones in the development of veligrotug leading to this first approval for thyroid eye disease.
