Confidence-aware multi-view fusion for high dynamic range fringe projection profilometry
Abstract:
Fringe projection profilometry (FPP) is a widely adopted 3D shape measurement technique because of its non-contact operation, high accuracy, and full-field capability. Under high-dynamic-range (HDR) conditions, material-dependent reflectance and radiometric nonlinearities can distort the captured fringe sequence, leading to biased phase estimation and localized geometric artifacts. We propose a confidence-aware multi-view fusion framework for HDR FPP, focusing on confidence-aware measurement selection rather than simple multi-view accumulation. Confidence is estimated from the phase-shifting sequence by considering near-saturation, low-brightness, and sinusoidal-model distortion, and is propagated to 3D points to guide registration and reference-view pixel-cell fusion with normal-consistency constraints. Compared with multi-exposure HDR reconstruction and conventional multi-view fusion based on modulation filtering, direct merging, and voxel-grid downsampling, the proposed method better preserves reliable measurements while suppressing corrupted or redundant samples. On a machined metal part, the RMSE is reduced from 0.5190 mm and 0.5199 mm for the two baselines to 0.4583 mm.

Phase Contrast and Differential Interference Contrast Microscopy
In-phase-contrast microscopes, interference between light directly passing through a cell and light refracted by cellular components is used to create high-contrast, high-resolution images without staining. It is the oldest and simplest type of microscope that creates an image by altering the wavelengths of light rays passing through the specimen. Altered wavelength paths are created using an annular stop in the condenser. The annular stop produces a hollow cone of...
