Objective:
This study aimed to describe work-related traumatic brain injury (wrTBI) incidence among working-age Wisconsinites in the Wisconsin Trauma Registry (WTR).
Methods:
Incident-level WTR data from 2017 to 2024 were analyzed by work-related and demographic factors. WrTBI incidence for demographics was assessed by chi-square analyses. Age-adjusted incidence rates (IR) were calculated by industry and occupation.
Results:
Incidents of wrTBI were associated with older ages, when compared with other work-related injuries. Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Construction industries (and related occupational groups) had the highest rates of wrTBI. Transportation and Public Utilities, and Building and Grounds Cleaning and Maintenance Occupations, also had significantly elevated IRs.
Conclusions:
These findings support previous analyses while adding a novel finding for Building and Grounds Cleaning and Maintenance Occupations to the literature. Trauma registries are a rich source for occupational health surveillance.
