Abstract:
The multifocal nature of orthotopic breast tumors makes it difficult to treat due to individual tumor differences, requiring multiple therapeutic interventions. Here, a customized therapeutic strategy is presented for multiple tumors by using the same prescription based on a multi-channel lanthanide nanocomposite and orthogonally controlled drug release. The upconversion luminescence of the nanocomposite at different wavelengths can monitor pH-responsive mitoxantrone (MXT) release, reduced glutathione-responsive near-infrared (NIR) absorbance change, and eigen temperature, respectively, allowing modulation of photothermal treatment and temperature-responsive paclitaxel release through customized whole-body irradiation to achieve synchronized ablation of different individual tumors. Small animal experiments confirm multifocal breast tumors can be treated through this customized therapeutic strategy with both high efficiency and low overtherapy risk.
