Collaborative Multidisciplinary Assessment of Performance: A Development Guide for Pediatric Heart Centers
Abstract:
In July 2023 the Criss Heart Center at Children's Nebraska launched weekly Collaborative Multidisciplinary Assessment of Performance Rounds (CMAP) as part of a structured, prospective Safety Management System framework. CMAP are designed to facilitate transparent, timely, and multidisciplinary evaluation of patient outcomes following pediatric heart surgery. This initiative uses real-time data from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database to create plots of each surgical patient's journey of risk-versus-time, from surgery through discharge, which are presented at weekly one-hour rounds. The ultimate goal of CMAP is to improve team performance and enhance patient outcomes.
