Editorial Commentary: Global Acetabular Overcoverage May Have Less Than Favorable Results but Pay Attention to Hip
1Graham Regional Medical Center, Graham, Texas, U.S.A.
Abstract:
Femoroacetabular impingement syndrome is becoming more and more defined. Like most orthopaedic conditions, it has continued to grow as our technology, comfortability, and understanding of the hip joint evolve. Patients undergoing hip arthroscopy with acetabular overcoverage improve at 5 years but still have less favorable results than those patients with less than a 40° lateral center-edge angle. In addition, the overcoverage group had a higher risk of revision surgery at midterm results; however, those patients in the overcoverage group had more pathologic findings in the hip than those without overcoverage. Careful analysis of hip comorbidities may temper our interpretation of these specific findings.
