Health Consequences of Environmental Exposome Frameworks
1Professor of Medicine, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Abstract:
The health implications of an environmental exposome must be applied in health policy and care. Resource extraction, manufacturing, weapons development and testing, combat preparation, training exercises, logistics, fuel combustion, infrastructure maintenance, and waste management all contribute to complex mixtures of chemical and nonchemical stressors that may persist long after their initial release. These interconnected activities create a continuous landscape-referred to herein as an environmental exposome affecting workers, service members, surrounding communities, and ecosystems across multiple stages of operation and global dissemination. Incorporating environmental exposome principles and life-cycle assessment approaches into research, clinical practice, occupational health programs, and would strengthen the identification, characterization, and mitigation of cumulative environmental and occupational risks.
