Abstract:
Herein, we demonstrate that arynes can be generated and trapped efficiently through mechanically assisted microscale mixing on a standard vortex mixer. Brief vortex agitation enables ultra-fast generation and interception of these highly reactive intermediates with N-, O-, S-, and C-nucleophiles within 1 min, therefore providing a low-energy-solvent minimized approach for aryl functionalization without the need for inert atmosphere, heating, or bulk solvent.

Preparation of Alkynes: Alkylation Reaction
Alkylation of terminal alkynes with primary alkyl halides in the presence of a strong base like sodium amide is one of the common methods for the synthesis of longer carbon-chain alkynes. For example, treatment of 1-propyne with sodium amide followed by reaction with ethyl bromide yields 2-pentyne.

Preparation of 1° Amines: Gabriel Synthesis
Strong bases like NaOH or KOH deprotonate the phthalimide to form the corresponding anion, which acts as a nucleophile. Further, the anion attacks an...
Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitution: Addition–Elimination (SNAr)
The reaction begins with an attack of the nucleophile on the carbon that holds the leaving group. This results in the delocalization of the π electrons over the ring carbons. The resonance interaction between the...
