Abstract:
Gd2O2S:Tb scintillation screens are widely used in high-resolution X-ray imaging, but conventional powder-based screens suffer from lateral optical scattering that degrades image sharpness and spatial resolution. Here, a structured Gd2O2S:Tb scintillation screen based on a honeycomb-like glass microchannel plate (MCP) was developed, in which the Gd2O2S:Tb phosphor was confined within ordered microchannels and a curing-assisted filling medium was introduced to form a vertically aligned optical-confinement structure. The 0.2 mm-thick screen exhibited a calculated X-ray attenuation efficiency of approximately 99%. Under X-ray irradiation at 90 kV and 89 μA, the estimated light yield was 14,576 photons⋅MeV-1 and the spatial resolution reached 25 lp/mm. Stable optical output was maintained up to a cumulative irradiation dose of 126 Gy, and distinct structural features remained discernible under simulated dental-imaging conditions. These results demonstrate that the MCP-structured Gd2O2S:Tb screen combines high X-ray attenuation capability with high-resolution imaging performance.
