Abstract:
Copolymer brushes of spiropyran methacrylate and methyl methacrylate were grown from gold surfaces by oxygen-tolerant Cu(0)-plate surface-initiated ATRP, giving uniform coatings with photoresponsive polarity switching, as shown by contact angle measurements. This approach overcomes the limitations of drop and spin casting and offers a route to light-responsive gold-based medical devices, such as nanovalves for gated release.
