Abstract:
Four previously undescribed Euphane triterpenes, comprising three dynamic epimerization pairs (1-3) and a tetranor derivative (5), as well as eight known analogues (4 and 6-12), have been separated from the tubers of Euphorbia antiquorum. Their structures were characterized by spectroscopic methods, including HR-ESIMS, NMR and ECD. All of them were evaluated for their inhibitory activity against the diabetic target α-glucosidase. Compound 5 exhibited the most potent activity with an IC50 value of 13.6 µM. The binding mode of 5 to α-glucosidase was further investigated, which identified it as a mixed-type inhibitor.
