Abstract:
Ecotoxicologists are using metabolomics increasingly to gain insight into toxicological mechanisms and sublethal effects of chemical exposures. Metabolomics offers a sensitive multi-parameter approach that can detect biochemical responses not obvious using apical and behavioural endpoints. This includes the responses to very low-dose toxicant exposures, variations in the physico-chemical state of experimental media, and even the progression of circadian rhythms. Consequently, repeatability and comparability of metabolomics experiments relies on the control and reporting of these features. In this systematic quantitative literature review, we examine recent ecotoxicology research to determine the rate and quality of reporting of circadian timing and other variables that influence circadian rhythms and the associated metabolome. We found that most circadian variables are underreported and call for further research into the influence of their manipulation on the metabolome.

Chronopharmacokinetics: Circadian Rhythms and Influence on Drug Response
The time of drug administration is an important factor to consider, as it can influence the toxic dose of a drug. For example, a study conducted by Prins et al. in 1997 examined the effects of the timing of...
Factors Affecting Drug Biotransformation: Biological
Species differences: Variations in enzyme systems across species can cause disparities in drug metabolism. For instance, humans may metabolize certain drugs faster than rodents, altering therapeutic effects.
Strain differences: Genetic variations within a species can result in differing enzyme activity, impacting drug response and toxicity. For example, some mouse strains may...

Chronopharmacokinetics: Time-Dependent Pharmacokinetics
Time-dependent pharmacokinetics refers to non-cyclical changes in drug rate processes over a period of time. It can lead to nonlinear pharmacokinetics, where the relationship between drug concentration and time is not proportional. Non-cyclical...
