Abstract:
Accurate, real-time determination of ion-beam energy is essential for heavy and superheavy element experiments at the 88-Inch Cyclotron. We report on the implementation of a non-interceptive time-of-flight diagnostic employing dual fast-current transformers. Signals are conditioned, combined, and digitized with Gaussian-centroid fitting, providing sub-nanosecond timing resolution and sub-percent agreement with expected beam energies. Commissioning runs with heavy-ion beams delivered to the Berkeley Gas-filled Separator demonstrated stable, nondestructive monitoring during long-duration user operations. The diagnostic architecture, built from commercially available components, is modular and readily adaptable to multiple beamlines. This approach establishes a robust framework for continuous online verification of beam energy and offers a scalable path toward future diagnostic upgrades across accelerator facilities.
