Abstract:
A novel bio-nano hybrid adsorbent from the integration of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) into the chitosan matrix (CT) was successfully developed to enhance the CT adsorption capacity and chemic al stability for dual anionic dyes (reactive orange 16 (RO16) and acid red 88 (AR88)) removal from dye-contaminated water. The adsorption experimental design was conducted using three key input parameters, such as CT/AgNP dose (A: 0.02-0.06 g/0.1 L), contact time (B: 10-60 min), and pH (C: 4-10). The input parameters were then developed and formulated into experiments to assess the best conditions for dye adsorption using the Box-Behnken Design (BBD) statistical analysis. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model provided the best fit to the adsorption kinetic data of RO16 and AR88. The Langmuir isotherm determined the adsorption capacity of CT/AgNP for RO16 to be 151 mg/g and for AR88 to be 160 mg/g. Hence, this study's findings demonstrate the successful development of a bio-nanocomposite based on CT/AgNP, providing a green adsorbent to be exploited for the removal of anionic dyes.
