Abstract:
Artificial tick feeding systems (ATFS) provide an ethical alternative to using experimental animals for feeding ticks. Silicone membrane-based systems enable controlled feeding of diverse Ixodid tick species and life stages while supporting the 3R principles to replace, reduce, and refine animal use. Here, we present a protocol for silicone membrane-based ATFS, outlining practical steps, essential components, and key troubleshooting considerations.
