Web-based clinical training of emergency trolley; new approach for nursing students: An interventional study

Education about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is imperative for nursing students, and web-based training systems has become increasingly prevalent. The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of web-based training system on the knowledge, satisfaction, and ease of use on nursing students.

The present study was conducted semi-experimentally on 60 undergraduate nursing students, with a convenient sampling approach and random allocation to control and intervention groups by blocking. The intervention was educational web-based application, accessible via QR codes during 8 weeks, and the control group received the same content in the form of lectures by the same lecturer. To assess knowledge level, knowledge test (MCQ form) was administered before and after the application. Additionally, participant's satisfaction and ease of use from app were evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Data were analyzed using Chi-square, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann Whitney, and Wilcoxon test tests in SPSS V.18 at a 0.05 standard error.

The mean and standard deviation of the total age of the participants was 22.78 ± 1.65 and 55% of the samples were male. Before the intervention, there was no meaningful variation between the two groups in knowledge level (P = 0.621); But after the intervention, the mean and standard deviation of knowledge level in the intervention group (P ≤ 0.001 and 11.13 ± 1.67) matched to the control group (P = 0.44 and 8.06 ± 2.46) were statistically meaningfully variated.

This study concluded that the web-based educational application for emergency trolley medications significantly enhanced the knowledge, satisfaction, and ease of use of undergraduate nursing students.
