Background:
Phacoemulsification surgery is one of the most widely performed ophthalmic procedures for cataract treatment worldwide, and the occurrence of lens capsule-related complications has a significant impact on surgical outcomes and visual prognosis of patients.
Main Text:
In this review article, we focus on lens capsule-related complications, including posterior capsule rupture, anterior capsular tear, capsule bend, anterior and posterior capsule opacification, capsular bag distension syndrome, capsular contraction syndrome, and dead bag syndrome. Drawing on both basic research and clinical evidence, we provide an updated overview of current evidence regarding their underlying mechanisms and key clinical treatment strategies. The risk factors for the occurrence of various complications are explored. The core pathophysiological mechanisms, including changes in capsule biomechanics, as well as the proliferation, migration, and fibrosis of lens epithelial cells, are analyzed in detail.
Conclusions:
Based on the above analysis, we summarize prevention and management strategies in hopes of improving the safety and effectiveness of cataract surgery.
