Abstract:
Hyperglycemia-induced hemiballismus is a rare involuntary movement disorder that can result from uncontrolled blood glucose. Often the movements are reversible with corrected blood glucose, but occasionally they persist despite improved glycemic control. Several case reports have been published that follow the initial inpatient management of this condition, but little has been reported regarding long-term management, especially in the setting of persistent movements. This case report provides a unique perspective, as it follows a patient diagnosed with hyperglycemia-induced hemiballismus in an outpatient setting for a period of over two years.
