Abstract:
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common opportunistic infection after kidney transplantation. A cause of symptomatic infection, it has also been associated with an increased risk of other infections, rejection, allograft loss, and mortality. Recent advances in diagnosis, prevention, and treatment have improved the management of this infection. This article reviews updated therapeutic and diagnostic approaches, highlighting the recommendations of the International CMV Consensus Conference and noting those areas in which further research is needed.
