Abstract:
A copper metallohydrogel has been synthesised using the gelator 2-(3-tert-butyl-2-hydroxy-5-methoxybenzylamino)acetic acid (H3L). The hydrogel was characterised using rheology, matrix assisted laser desorption ionisation-time of flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry, FTIR, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The efficacy of the hydrogel as a heterogeneous, reusable catalyst for the Biginelli condensation has been investigated. We have also investigated the antimicrobial activity of the hydrogel against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Acid Halides to Ketones: Gilman Reagent
As shown below, the mechanism proceeds in two steps. First, one of the alkyl groups of the reagent acts as a nucleophile and attacks the acyl carbon of the acid chloride to form a tetrahedral intermediate. This is followed by the reformation of the carbon–oxygen double...

Reduction of Alkenes: Asymmetric Catalytic Hydrogenation
The metal catalyst used can be either heterogeneous or homogeneous. When hydrogenation of an alkene generates a chiral center, a pair of enantiomeric products is expected to form. However, an enantiomeric excess of one of the products can be facilitated using an enantioselective reaction or an...
