Abstract:
Neutral heteroleptic trithiocyanurato-bridged manganese(i)/rhenium(i)-based M3LL'-type trinuclear and M6L2L″-type hexanuclear metallacages were accomplished in a single step by one-pot synthesis strategy using rudimentary dimetal decacarbonyl (Mn2(CO)10/Re2(CO)10), flexible tripodal ligands (L' = 2-ethyl-2((isonicotinoyloxy)methyl)propane-1,3-diyl diisonicotinate (L1) and 1,3,5-tri(benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)-2,4,6-triethylbenzene (L2)) or hexapodal N-donors (L″ = 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexakis(benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)-benzene (L3)) alongside of trithiocyanuric acid (L = ttcH3) as a tris-N,S-chelating bridge via orthogonal bonding approach. The M3LL' type trinuclear (1-4) and M6L2L″-type hexanuclear (5-6) metallacages were characterized by IR, UV/Vis, 1H NMR spectroscopic and HR-ESI-MS techniques and elemental analysis. Furthermore, the structural elucidation by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques revealed a dome-shaped trinuclear metallacage for 1 and an Igloo-type trinuclear cage-like framework for 3 and 4, while the metallacage 6 displayed a hexanuclear hour glass type of architecture.

Metal-Ligand Bonds
In these complexes, transition metals form coordinate covalent bonds, a kind of Lewis acid-base interaction in which both of the electrons in the bond are contributed by a donor (Lewis base) to an electron acceptor (Lewis acid). The Lewis acid in...

Structural Isomerism
Isomers are different chemical species that have the same chemical formula. Structural isomerism of coordination compounds can be divided into two subcategories, the linkage isomers and coordination-sphere isomers.
Linkage isomers occur when the coordination compound contains a ligand that can bind to the transition metal center through two different atoms. For example, the CN− ligand can bind through the carbon atom or through the nitrogen atom. Similarly, SCN− can be...
