Background:
The Türkiye 2025 Report Card for Children and Adolescents provides a comprehensive evaluation of physical activity (PA) levels and associated indicators using the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance grading framework.
Methods:
The Türkiye 2025 Report Card follows the standardized methodology established by the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance Global Matrix. Based on nationally available evidence (government reports, peer-reviewed literature, surveys, etc) released from 2019 to January 2025, a research team evaluated the 10 core PA indicators in the global matrix and assigned letter grades (A-F) according to benchmarks defined by the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance.
Results:
Grades were awarded as follows: overall PA, F; organized sport participation, F; active play, INCOMPLETE; active transportation, C+; sedentary behaviors, B-; physical fitness, C-; family and peers, B; school, C; community and environment, B; and government, C.
Conclusions:
More than 90% of Turkish children and adolescents fail to meet World Health Organization guidelines for PA (ie, ≥60 min/d moderate to vigorous PA, on average). Although some efforts have been made to develop PA policies in Türkiye, there is limited surveillance and little evidence regarding their impact on PA levels among children and adolescents. The results highlight the importance of adopting an urgent and comprehensive approach to address and combat the widespread physical inactivity in Türkiye.
