Abstract:
Bone involvement in malignant lymphoma is a critical poor prognostic factor; however, its molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. A man in his 40s with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma presented with multiple extensive osteolytic lesions. Molecular and histopathological analyses revealed that the lymphoma cells were completely negative for major osteolytic factors, including RANKL, PTHrP, and DKK1. Conversely, the potent expression of MIP-1α and MIP-1ß was detected in these patients. This case suggests a possible novel, RANKL-independent mechanism of bone destruction mediated by the MIP-1 family in lymphoma, highlighting a potential therapeutic target that addresses both bone lysis and tumor progression.
