Abstract:
A radical initiation method using red light irradiation was developed. Zinc(II) tetraphenylporphyrin and a thiohydroxamate ester generate a carbon-centered radical that starts a chain reaction. The method was validated by conducting Ueno-Stork cyclizations. The room-temperature reaction conditions are mild and the reaction can be scaled up to the gram scale in a batch system.
