Abstract:
Populations experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage have high mental health needs, particularly for common mental health disorders. Yet, they face numerous barriers to accessing appropriate services, especially psychotherapy. In Quebec, community-based psychotherapy organizations (CPOs) offer innovative services combining high clinical rigor with a strong commitment to community action principles to address these issues. This article aims to describe the social innovation represented by the model developed by these organizations, in order to raise awareness among the public, professionals, policymakers, and researchers. It provides a preliminary overview of CPOs, covering their organizational structure, intervention philosophy, and the few qualitative studies examining their outcomes. Practical implications for the development of services and policies aimed at democratizing access to psychotherapy and reducing social inequalities in mental health are discussed. Scientific gaps to be addressed in future research on this innovative model are also outlined.

Fortunately, due to advancement in technology, many rural healthcare facilities and professionals have easy access to diagnostic and treatment...
