Abstract:
We present a case report on the conservative treatment of spontaneous spinal epidural hematomas (SSEHs) in infancy, a very rare condition. Physical examinations and serial MRIs were conducted for SSEHs located between C7 and T4. About 4 months after the onset of the first symptoms, normal muscle strength was observed in the lower limbs of the patient who had experienced bilateral lower limb paralysis, and MRI results indicated recovery in the affected nerve area. This single case suggests that, in carefully selected infants who show early signs of spontaneous neurological improvement, conservative treatment may be considered as an option for managing SSEHs; however, given the limitations of a single case report, further studies are needed before this approach can be more broadly recommended.
