Abstract:
RNA-RNA interactions (RRIs) are central to various biological processes, including post-transcriptional regulation, gene silencing, and viral replication. While traditional computational methods for RRI prediction rely on sequence complementarity and thermodynamic models, deep learning approaches, particularly those leveraging long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, have shown great promise in modeling the complexity of RNA behavior. This chapter reviews recent advances in LSTM-based methods for RRI prediction, discusses the key datasets and evaluation metrics, and outlines future directions in this emerging field.

Different Types of RNA Have the Same Basic Structure
There are three main types of ribonucleic acid (RNA) involved in protein synthesis: messenger RNA (mRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA), and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). All three...
RNA Structure
The basic structure of RNA consists of a five-carbon sugar and one of four nitrogenous bases. Although most RNA is single-stranded, it can form complex secondary and tertiary structures. Such structures play essential roles in the regulation of transcription and translation.

Nucleic Acids
DNA and RNA
The two main types of nucleic acids are deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA). DNA is the genetic material in all living organisms, ranging from single-celled bacteria to multicellular mammals. It is in the nucleus of eukaryotes and in the organelles, chloroplasts, and mitochondria. In prokaryotes, the...

RNA Interference
This process occurs naturally in cells, often through the activity of genomically-encoded microRNAs. Researchers can take advantage of this mechanism by introducing synthetic RNAs to deactivate specific genes for research or therapeutic purposes. For example, RNAi could be used...
