Abstract:
A supramolecular hydrogen-bonding strategy converts a twisted non-mesogenic AIE luminogen into ordered smectic liquid crystals. The hydrogen-bond network acts as a conformation lock, planarising excited states, enhancing intersystem crossing by two orders of magnitude, and activating room-temperature phosphorescence with a lifetime of 8 ms.
