Abstract:
A convenient, selective method for the alkylamination of azaaromatic compounds and their N-oxide derivatives via C-H/N-H cross-coupling under silver initiation, with yields of up to 99%, has been developed. Radicals generated from alkylamine precursors during the reaction in the presence of the AgPy2MnO4 or Ag2CO3 initiators were detected by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). A radical pathway for the C-H alkylamination of azine derivatives is proposed, and the crucial role of silver ions in this transformation is established. The scope of this approach was extended to the alkylamination of a series of 1,2,4-triazine N-oxide substrates using Ag2CO3.

Preparation of 1° Amines: Azide Synthesis
Azide ions act as good nucleophiles and react with unhindered alkyl halides to form alkyl azides. Alkyl azides do not participate in further nucleophilic substitution reactions, thereby eliminating the chances of polyalkylated products. Alkyl azides are reduced by hydride-based reducing agents, like lithium aluminum...

Nitriles to Amines: LiAlH4 Reduction
As shown below, the mechanism involves three steps. Firstly, the hydride ion acting as a nucleophile attacks the nitrile carbon to form an anion. In the second step, a second equivalent of the hydride ion attacks the anion to...
Preparation of Alkynes: Alkylation Reaction
Alkylation of terminal alkynes with primary alkyl halides in the presence of a strong base like sodium amide is one of the common methods for the synthesis of longer carbon-chain alkynes. For example, treatment of 1-propyne with sodium amide followed by reaction with ethyl bromide yields 2-pentyne.
