Background And Aims:
Current ERCP-based methods for removing gallbladder stones usually need two separate procedures. We evaluated a single-step technique combining stent placement, balloon dilation, and immediate stone removal.
Methods:
Patients with both gallbladder and common bile duct stones were enrolled. Bile duct stones were extracted via ERCP, followed by POCS-guided gallbladder stenting, balloon dilation of the cystic duct stent portion to more fully expand the stent and removing gallbladder stones in the same session. Outcomes were technical success and complete stone clearance.
Results:
From March to November 2025, 14 patients were enrolled. Technical success and complete stone clearance were achieved in 14/14 patients. Six patients developed hyperamylasemia; no pancreatitis occurred. One patient experienced gallbladder perforation, which resolved with conservative management.
Conclusions:
This single-step endoscopic technique is technically feasible, offering a promising minimally invasive alternative for patients with concurrent gallbladder and common bile duct stones who wish to avoid cholecystectomy.
