Abstract:
Echinococcosis is a common disease in the Mediterranean region, frequently affecting livestock breeders and farmers. Hepatic involvement is the most prevalent manifestation, typically managed through surgical intervention, either open or laparoscopic. Communication between the cyst and the biliary ducts may occur at varying rates and can be identified preoperatively or postoperatively. Biliary leakage usually resolves spontaneously; however, in some cases, medical intervention via endoscopy, radiological techniques, or surgery may be required, particularly in complex scenarios. In this paper, we present a case of a 63-year-old Syrian woman who underwent multiple surgical procedures and interventions to repair a bilio-cutaneous fistula following open hydatid cyst surgery. The condition was successfully treated using fistulo-jejunostomy, with no reported complications over a 36-month follow-up period.
