Introduction:
The integration of microcomputed tomography (microCT) with finite element modeling (FEM) offers a powerful nondestructive approach for evaluating bone-implant interactions. This research was done to investigate osseointegration dynamics and bone-implant bond strength using microCT-derived finite element analysis (FEA).
Materials And Methods:
A total of 264 subjects were divided equally into control and experimental groups. High-resolution microCT imaging was performed to quantify peri-implant bone morphology, followed by specimen-specific FEM using validated computational platforms. Morphometric parameters including bone volume fraction, trabecular thickness, and bone-implant contact (BIC) were analyzed alongside biomechanical indices such as von Mises stress, strain distribution, and interfacial micromotion. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS and GraphPad Prism, with significance set at P < 0.05.
Results:
The experimental group demonstrated significantly improved peri-implant bone architecture, with higher bone volume fraction and increased BIC compared to controls (P < 0.001). FEA revealed reduced stress concentration, lower interfacial micromotion, and improved load distribution in the experimental group. Strong positive correlations were observed between microCT-derived parameters and implant bond strength, particularly BIC (r = 0.88, P < 0.001), indicating a direct structure-function relationship in osseointegration.
Conclusion:
The integration of microCT imaging with FEM provides a robust, nondestructive, and highly sensitive framework for evaluating osseointegration dynamics. Microstructural bone parameters are strongly predictive of biomechanical implant stability.
