Abstract:
Chest X-ray report generation aims to produce diagnostic descriptions grounded in imaging evidence. However, correlation-driven models may exploit reporting templates and disease co-occurrence patterns, leading to unsupported findings and semantic drift. To address this issue, we propose C3E-RRG, a confounder-aware causal debiasing framework for chest X-ray report generation that incorporates explicit causal modeling into the encoder-decoder pipeline. Specifically, we first construct confounding variables by combining language priors derived from pointwise mutual information with disease co-occurrence statistics, and apply confounder-aware adjustment to suppress spurious correlations induced by data bias. We then design an evidence-consistent cross-modal coupling module to strengthen the correspondence between visual features and diagnostic semantics, thereby reducing semantic drift caused by high-frequency reporting templates. Finally, we develop a dynamic bidirectional causal evolution mechanism that iteratively revisits visual evidence and refines semantic representations, progressively correcting semantic deviations and improving image-text consistency during long-sequence generation. Experiments on the IU-XRay and MIMIC-CXR datasets demonstrate competitive performance and validate the effectiveness of the proposed components in suppressing confounding effects, aligning visual evidence with diagnostic semantics, and dynamically correcting generation errors. Definition and Purpose
An X-ray, or radiograph, is a non-invasive method that uses ionizing radiation to take images of internal structures. It is mainly used in cardiac imaging to examine the heart, lungs, and major blood vessels, aiming to identify abnormalities in the heart's size, shape, and position, such as heart failure, congenital defects, and vascular...

Radiological Investigation III: Pulmonary Angiogram and PET Scan
Pulmonary Angiogram
A Pulmonary Angiogram is an invasive procedure involving injecting a contrast medium through a catheter threaded into the pulmonary artery or the right side of the heart to visualize the pulmonary vasculature. Computed Tomography (CT) scans have mainly replaced this...
Computed Tomography
The technique was invented in the 1970s and is based on the principle that as X-rays pass through the body, they are absorbed or reflected at different levels. In the technique, a patient lies on a motorized platform while a computerized axial tomography (CAT) scanner rotates...
Positron Emission Tomography
One of the main requirements of a PET scan is a positron-emitting radioisotope, which is produced in a cyclotron and then attached to a substance used by the part of the body being...
