Abstract:
Burns in newborns differ from those in older children: they are often iatrogenic or caused by flames. Their healing capacity is greater, but the thinness of their skin explains why the injuries are more easily severe. Antiseptics and various dressings that can be used, as well as those contraindicated in newborns, are described. Available analgesics and guidelines for wound management are reviewed. Specific surgical techniques are often used to compensate for the limited skin surface available for autografts. Despite their fragility, newborns exhibit remarkable healing and resilience.
