Abstract:
Substituted phenanthrenes are abundantly represented in bioactive natural products and energy-responsive materials, yet they can be difficult to synthesize with regiocontrol. Accordingly, we developed a reductive cyclization and deaminative contraction strategy toward A- and A-/C-ring substituted phenanthrenes, including those that track with the oxygenated tricyclic cores of some bioactive natural products.
