Abstract:
How are distinct descending motor pathways specified during development, and how do they contribute to movement? In a recent study, Kaiser et al. identified molecularly distinct cortical projection neurons that establish separate descending trajectories early in development. Their findings reveal a direct cortico-brainstem pathway with a specific role in skilled forelimb control, highlighting how developmental molecular identity can shape the functional organisation of descending motor circuits.
