Introduction:
During a meat inspection of a 12-year-old female cow, cordlike and multinodular masses were detected in the right atrium and the right ventricle. The cut surfaces of the nodules were gelatinous and yellowish. Histologically, monomorphic, spindle-shaped cells were observed, arranged in compact bundles and palisades. Immunohistochemical testing showed variable positivity for S100, vimentin, and glial fibrillary acidic protein GFAP. The findings are consistent with a peripheral nerve sheath tumor (schwannoma) of the heart. The affected organ was deemed unfit for human consumption, while the remainder of the carcass was classified as fit for human consumption.
