    Summary

This study presents a rare case of supernumerary ectopic canaliculi, an abnormal tear drainage pathway, in a young patient. Surgical correction successfully resolved the condition, restoring normal function.

    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Anatomy

    Background:

    • Congenital anomalies of the lacrimal system are uncommon.
    • Ectopic canaliculi represent a rare deviation from normal tear drainage anatomy.

    Observation:

    • A 12-year-old male presented with supernumerary ectopic canaliculi.
    • The abnormal puncta were located on the lateral nasal surface, near the inner canthus.
    • These aberrant canals directly connected to the lacrimal sac.

    Findings:

    • Surgical intervention was performed to correct the anomalous tear drainage.
    • The patient experienced a complete resolution of symptoms post-surgery.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the importance of recognizing and surgically managing rare lacrimal system anomalies.
    • Successful surgical correction can lead to excellent long-term outcomes for patients with ectopic canaliculi.
