This case report highlights the challenge of linking electroencephalogram (EEG) abnormalities to clinical seizures in epilepsy patients with electrical status epilepticus but normal behavior. Dichotic listening tests revealed subtle impairments during noncompliance with anticonvulsant therapy.

    Area of Science:

    • Neuroscience
    • Clinical Neurology
    • Epileptology

    Background:

    • Epilepsy diagnosis relies on correlating clinical symptoms with electroencephalogram (EEG) findings.
    • Electrical status epilepticus can present with normal behavior, complicating diagnosis.
    • Subtle cognitive and linguistic impairments may be present in epilepsy patients.
