    Background:

    • Immobilized geriatric patients often receive conventional liquid diets.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To assess the energy and nutrient intake of immobilized geriatric patients on a conventional liquid diet.
    • To evaluate the impact of food supplementation on nutrient intake and nitrogen balance in this population.

    • Studied nutrient intake over 16 days in nine immobilized geriatric patients.
    • Administered a conventional liquid diet followed by the same diet with added food supplementation.
    • Analyzed energy, fat, and protein intake, consumed volume, and urinary nitrogen excretion.

    • Initial energy intake averaged 870 kcal/24 h, with low fat (16 g/24 h) and protein (33 g/24 h) intake.

    • Supplementation improves protein and fat consumption, leading to better nitrogen balance and potentially improved nutritional status.
