    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate serum lysozyme levels in patients with various untreated cancers.
    • To correlate lysozyme levels with different cancer types and clinical stages.

    • Serum samples were collected from 336 patients with malignant melanoma, lung cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, benign breast tumors, and healthy controls.
    • Lysozyme levels were quantified in patient sera.

    Conclusions:

    • Serum lysozyme levels do not consistently reflect the immunological reactivity of all tumor bearers.
    • Reduced lysozyme levels in early-stage breast cancer may indicate an underlying immunological defect.
    • Further research is needed to elucidate the specific role of lysozyme in different cancer types and stages.
