    Summary

    Three epidural hematomas were misdiagnosed as tumors due to their slow growth. Post-traumatic complications were identified through patient history, not imaging, in these rare cases of intracranial space occupation.

    Background:

    • Epidural hematomas (EDHs) typically present with acute symptoms.
    • Protracted EDH growth is rare and can mimic other intracranial pathologies.

    Observation:

    • Fifteen cases of EDH with prolonged growth were reviewed.
    • Three of these cases were initially suspected of having a tumorous origin.

    Findings:

    • Post-traumatic complications were identified via patient history in most cases.
    • Skull fractures were noted in only one case.
    • Neuroradiological imaging did not reveal intracranial space occupation outside the cerebrum.

    Implications:

    • Slow-growing EDHs can present diagnostic challenges, mimicking tumors.
    • Thorough patient history is crucial for diagnosing post-traumatic complications in atypical EDH cases.
    • Advanced imaging may not always differentiate EDHs from other space-occupying lesions.
