    Summary

Ranulas are mucous extravasation cysts originating from the sublingual salivary gland. Surgical removal of this gland is an effective treatment for cervical ranulas, even when they infiltrate neck tissues.

    Area of Science:

    • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
    • Surgical Pathology

    Background:

    • Ranulas are typically mucous extravasation cysts arising from the sublingual salivary gland.
    • These cysts can rarely extend into the neck, mimicking cervical tumors.

    Observation:

    • Four cases of cervical ranula presenting as neck tumors are presented.
    • Literature review on ranula presentation and management.

    Findings:

    • Cervical ranulas can infiltrate adjacent tissue planes.
    • The sublingual salivary gland is the primary origin of ranulas.

    Implications:

    • Surgical excision of the sublingual salivary gland is the recommended treatment.
    • Early diagnosis and appropriate management are crucial for successful outcomes.
